Bodywork sessions + classes

“Sonja brings the energy of healing and compassion to all bodywork sessions with clients.”

As a skilled Massage Therapist with over 1350 hours of training in Thai Bodywork, Shiatsu Therapy, and Therapeutic Massage, I am experienced and skilled in helping to balance a client’s energy, loosening up sore and tight muscles, and leaving people feeling energized with a sense of deep relaxation and wellbeing.

I graduated from the East-West Program at CenterPoint Massage & Shiatsu Therapy & Clinic in St. Louis Park, MN. Also, I trained in several levels of Thai Massage with Chris Gordon, owner of Big River Yoga in Minneapolis, MN.

Styles of Individual Bodywork

Thai Yoga Bodywork

Style of massage using palming pressure, assisted stretching, and range of motion at joints. Stretching is very slow, allowing a myofascial release. Great for balancing energy and leaving the session feeling deeply relaxed yet energized.

Clients wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy stretching, such as yoga or workout pants and a t-shirt.

Shiatsu Therapy

Japanese Acupressure massage utilizing the meridian system of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Different levels of thumb pressure are used on specific acupuncture points to relieve tension and bring balance to the body and mind. There is also client-assisted stretching and exercising of the arms and legs.

Clients wear loose, comfortable clothing such as yoga or workout wear to allow ease of movement.

Therapeutic Massage

Traditional table massage with lotion and oils. Sonja works on muscular tension through kneading, thumb pressure with gliding, elbow pressure, trigger point therapy, and traction. This massage is great for acute muscular pain and discomfort and can bring immediate relief.

Clients undress to their comfort level for table massage.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping (from Traditional Chinese Medicine) uses negative pressure via suction with silicone cups that create a vacuum that increases blood flow to the cupped area, which results in a reduction of pain and tension that can usually be felt immediately.

Cupping is great for a quick release of acute tension and is a wonderful compliment to any massage or a single service.

I discovered Thai massage on a vacation many years ago so I was delighted when I found Sonja right here in St Paul.

Sonja is an experienced and intuitive practitioner as well as a charming human whom I always look forward to seeing. Her massages leave me feeling like I’ve just had a thorough, nurturing stretch class but without the effort. ;-) It’s the perfect reset that makes me feel ready for anything (haha, aka: my life.)

Yoga

A compassionate focus on “yoga for every body” is how I was trained*, and it has remained an essential tenet of my teaching for over a decade.

I encourage props, support, and modifications when needed, and clients are encouraged to tune in and listen to their bodies for what feels right when exploring yoga postures. It’s never about looking perfect or forcing yourself into any posture. It’s about finding where you are in your body and working towards what feels aligned.

Sonja is available for private yoga sessions by appointment.
